Not quite ready to pull the trigger on the new site
I was hoping to have the new site up and running before the first of the year, but reality has once intruded itself into my life. It’s close to being ready, I probably could just switch over, but there have been a few minor issues with the new server that make me hesitate. There are only a few things I consider myself to be a perfectionist at, and the initial setup of a new server is one of them; I hate starting off the life of a new server without everything in place just the way I want it. So maybe by the 8th I’ll have everything working to my liking and switch over.
The main problem I’m having is that a number of plugins I’ve been trying to put in place just don’t quite want to work right. I’m switching from Movable Type to WordPress. While I have some experience with WordPress, I’ve never been the primary administrator of a WordPress site. I also had some problems installing a few of the prerequisites for WordPress and even though I think I have everything in place correctly, I have to wonder if that’s the source of my problems. It’s either that or some of the plugins have some with the latest version of WP.
If you really want to take a look at the new site, you can check it out at ww2.mckeay.net. I’m pretty confident that the RSS feeds are all working, which is the single biggest issue I was worried about. I’m sure there will be some additional bugs to work out in the process of moving over, but I’m confident I can handle them when the time comes. And if not, I guess I can always stick with the ugly ‘brick and orange’ color scheme of the current site for another year! Or not.
