The 59 Top Influencers in IT Security

I got an email over the weekend asking for some input on this list, in fact you might recognized part of the list from the RSA Security Blogger Meetup.  I’m honored to be on the list, but I don’t think this is a list of the people who’ll be still making a difference in 15 years.  A lot of us are talkers and thinkers, but not necessarily the people who are really doing the work.  But what do I know, I’ve been told I’m too humble for my own good. :-)

The list isn’t in order of influence, it’s grouped into categories; Bruce Schneier would be #1 since he still has the largest audience outside the security community.  I have two co-workers on the list, Alan and Mitchell, and a host of people on the list I’d consider friends and aquantances.  I’ve met  almost everyone in the Chief Blogging Officers, Bloggers and Corporate Security Officers.  I’ve also helped a encourage more than a few of the the people on the list to blog and been encouraged by almost all of them.

Congratulations to all the other folks that made the list.  I don’t see a single name that doesn’t deserve to on the list.  There are bound to be a few of the names you haven’t heard of before, just because they’re niche bloggers in a niche subject.  But they still have a lot of influence in the security sphere.

I’m just waiting until tomorrow to see one or two of the mailing lists I read; they’re populated with the real security professionals, the ones doing the job rather than talking about it.  I can just hear it now, “Who the heck are all these upstarts?!?” Heh.
