Network Security Podcast, Episode 103

Published by at 6:57 pm under Podcast

There were more than a few technical difficulties in recording tonight’s show. Thanks to Paul Asadoorian from PaulDotCom Security Weekly for hanging with us and getting a show recorded despite it all. If it hadn’t been for some quick thinking on his and Rich’s parts, I don’t think we could have had a show this week. I’m still working on my DSL line, but I’m pretty certain the wiring in my office is bad; the DSL has been fine since I moved the modem to a different wall plug in the bedroom. I just hope my wife is willing to ignore the bright yellow cable stretching across the hall until I can get a new telephone cable run.

Martin and Rich: Did you guys know that this podcast has some rather long silences where it sounds like the audio in from Paul and Martin’s commentary is unheard. It’s kind of funny to listen to Rich just listening to you guys talk, but I missed the interaction between all the hosts.

No, we didn’t know that. I didn’t do the editing this time since I had a lot of network issues, and I don’t listen to the podcast once it’s been posted. I hate the sound of my own voice. I’ve let Rich know there were some audio problems with the latest podcast.

Martin, I discovered something when I got home yesterday and plugged in my iPod. It looks as though the audio was recorded with your and Paul’s audio on the right channel and Rich’s on the left channel. That would explain why I heard everything last night, but heard nothing when at the office yesterday and listening to my iPod with just one of the earbuds in.

So, not a major issue, but I don’t remember that happening before.

Again, keep up the good work.

The issue with the separation we knew about and we hope to never do that again. We normally have a slight separation between the two audio channels, but with this episode we had a lot of technical difficulties and this was one of the casualties.

Thanks for getting back to me,
