What’s going on with Feedburner?

Published by at 5:32 am under Site Configuration

I’ve received three separate notifications that my post about Twitter earlier this week is showing up again and again in people’s RSS feeds. I’ve done nothing, honest! I haven’t made any changes to the blog, I’ve only made one short post since then and the only other admin stuff I’ve done is approve comments and delete spam. It’s not my fault and I apologize to anyone this is causing heartburn for.

I blame Feedburner.

FeedBurner has slowly gone down the tubes since the Google purchase. Their service is getting worse by the day. Last January, my productivity blog went from 6700+ subscribers to 1500+. I tried finding out why for almost 2 weeks, and NEVER heard anything from them. This is getting to be a sign of the times with Google acquisitions (see Jaiku, no development since the purchase). It is a shame that the leader in website statistics has (essentially) become a joke on the web. I also received 3 instances of your Twitter post in Google Reader, and was wondering if you were making changes to the post and then it was getting resent through the system.

The really ironic part is that I got the above post duplicated 4 times in FeedDemon today. :) FWIW, I’m still gettting the Twitter post.

I don’t know if it’s a Feedburner problem since I keep getting duplicated posts in Bloglines only from your blog. To make things funnier, the Twitter post is not showing up anymore but this one is, every single time I check my feeds :)

They all have the same post ID too it’s very odd.

This post is shown 3 times, “Is Twitter a security risk” shows up 8 times (http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MartinMckeaysNetworkSecurityBlog/~3/303745639/)
