San Francisco BaySec tonight

Published by under General,Social Networking

Once again, it is time for BaySec in San Francisco!  I haven’t had the chance to make it to a BaySec in a few months, but this is usually one of my favorite local events to attend.  There are no sponsors (buy your own drinks, dang it!), no agenda, and no hassle.  The security folks range from QSA’s to sys admins to hackers.  We even allow in an occasional sales guy.  It’s a purely social event, but given how many people work security in the SF bay area, it can be a really big social event.  More importantly it’s fun.  Starts around 7:00.  I just have to make sure I get a podcast recorded, edited and posted before I head for BaySec tonight.

FIRST 2010 Podcast: DUS Reitinger, US Department of Homeland Security

Published by under Government,Podcast

Last week I had a chance to talk to Phil Reitinger, the Deputy Undersecretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate as well as the Director of the National Cybersecurity Center.  Mr. Reitinger shares a little of his challenges and accomplishments at the Department of Homeland Security and talks briefly about his keynote presentation at this year’s FIRST Conference.

Network Security Podcast, Episode 196

Published by under Podcast

Zach and Martin had to do without Rich this week, since he’s on the road doing speaker type things and (hopefully) getting paid for it.  Zach was on the road as well and Martin was heading out on the road, so things are a little rough around the edges.  With any luck, we’ll have all three of us back on the podcast next week.  Or at least have one of us at home with decent recording equipment.

Network Security Podcast, Episode 195

Published by under Podcast

[Note:  As Zach says below, it's been a heck of a couple of weeks.  Every one of us is a moving target right now.  Hopefully we'll get back on track next week]

First and foremost, our apologies. This
episode went up about a week late (life gets in the way sometimes), and
runs about ten minutes longer than usual. Rich and Martin took a break
this go ’round, and I (Zach) steered the sheep. Once again joined by
friend-of-the-show, James Arlen (a.k.a. Myrcurial), we spoke of James’
narrow escape from the “ash cloud” that blanketed Europe; the branding
of “narcissistic vulnerability pimps”; and James’ kryptonite: “cyber
warfare!” This episode’s another rough ‘n tumble one, but we’ll be back
on track next week — and we’ve got a few things cookin’.
